Learning The Greek Alphabet

The Greek Language is one of the most complex languages to learn. However, the Greek Alphabet is easier to memorize because each letter can stand on its own. Ironic but true. The letter starts with Alpha and ends with Omega, which we know or we refer today as the beginning and the end respectively.

The Greek Alphabet can be dated back to the 8th century BC onwards. It was derived and adopted from the Phoenician Alphabet or letters. It consists of twenty four (24) letters. The difference of Greek Alphabet from the Phoenician Alphabet is its ability for representation as a unique letter symbol. The Greek alphabet fathered several European and Middle Eastern alphabets that managed to follow the same script writing standard, a couple of which are Cyrillic and Latin.

The Greek Alphabet is usually used in mathematics as a mathematical symbol. The letters can symbolize an angle such as ? (theta) and ß (beta). Different field of specializations have used some of the Greek Alphabets to give meaning to their craft. Omega (O) is used to denote in Electronics Engineering as ohms and its lower case (?) to signify angular velocity. Each letter case variance can mean something in the science and mathematical field.

Each letter from the Greek alphabet is so meaningful that literally borrowing a few letters can create a sentence in the modern world. Complicated as it may seem, learning a few Greek words can create an impression with the locals of Greece specially if you're visiting the place.
