There are truly hundreds of different Greek dishes to choose from, so there is something for every palette. Dishes vary from region to region, but there are many traditional dishes which can be found almost everywhere. For vegetarians, a dish called chaniotiko boureki might be a good choice. Other tasty dishes include stuffed grape leaves, spanakopitas, which are delicate spinach and cheese pies made with thin phyllo dough, and tzatziki, which is a thick cucumber and yogurt sauce that can be used as a dip or garnish.
Even Greek desserts are relatively healthy. One of the most famous is baklava, a concoction of honey and nuts, baked together in phyllo pastry. It’s much healthier than other desserts, but tastes sweet and is very satisfying. Often, simple is better in Greek cuisine, but in each bite there’s a wealth of flavor.
